Stralsund – a city by the sea

Stralsund – a city by the sea
Seagulls, white sails, numerous fishermen at the harbor and on the Rügen Bridge – all this belongs to Stralsund, which is located at the “Strelasund”. Admire the hustle and bustle at the harbor including fresh fish and fish rolls as well as the northern pier, the busy hustle and bustle in the historic old town or the dreamy view from the church towers of the three large Stralsund churches.

Nature everywhere

If you drive your motorhome across the bridge to Rügen, you will reach the extremely popular vacation island of Rügen. Rügen is known for its avenue roads, the national parks in the north of the island and the chalk coast near Sassnitz. In addition, you will find sleepy fisher villages and the Baltic seaside resorts with spa architecture, piers, and shopping miles.

Fine dining in the Dolden Mädel brewery inn

The “Dolden Mädel Braugasthaus” is known for craft beer (15 different beers on tap) as well as the best food with meat from species-appropriate husbandry and 100% organic and locally grown food and meat. The beef comes exclusively from our own organic farm in Western Pomerania – the LandWert Hof. Here, animals are slaughtered that are kept according to strict ecological criteria. For the “Braugasthaus” guests, delicious meat and sausage products are processed from them. The malting barley comes mainly from our own cultivation areas on the island of Rügen.

Excursion tips Stralsund

The oldest harbor pub in Europe Harbor pub “Zur Fähre” – anno 1332 –

Stralsund’s Fährstraße connects the Alter Markt with the harbor and the ferries. In the lower section, on the corner of Wasserstraße in house no. 17, the oldest harbor pub in the city and one of the oldest pubs in Europe is still in operation today.

Even in the Middle Ages, licenses to serve beer and brew beer – today known as “Schankgenehmigung” – were only granted on application and were precisely recorded for taxation purposes. It is in this context that today’s harbor pub “Zur Fähre” was first mentioned in the second Stralsund city register in 1332.

Every Sunday at 3 pm, the landlady Hanni tells stories from the book of times and from the old house. You will get to know people from 700 years of taverns, love, longing and adventure.
